Citi credit card and Citibank account statements
Convert Citi statements to Excel, CSV and QuickBooks
Citi keeps twelve recent card statements ready to download and makes you request the rest. Once you have the PDFs, converting them turns each cycle into checked rows.

The short answer
Can you export a Citi statement to Excel?
You can export a Citi statement to Excel for recent activity from Citi Online, but older history has to come from the PDF statements. For credit cards, Citi’s own guide describes your twelve most recent statements as downloadable as PDFs straight away; older statements are requested by month and year, take a day or more to prepare, and are then available to download for a limited time. For Citibank deposit accounts, recent statements are online and older ones are requested in the same way.
Transaction downloads exist for recent activity, but the formats and range depend on the account and are shown in Citi Online rather than on a public help page — check there before relying on a full year being available.
For anything else — a closed card, statements you requested for a past tax year, statements produced in discovery, or cycles you need tied to the printed new balance — convert the PDF. Each statement becomes rows checked against Citi’s account summary.

What Citi lets you export from a credit card
Recent cycles are quick to get. Older ones take a request, a wait and a seven-day window, and only then can they be converted.
Activity view and download in Citi Online
Shown in Citi Online
Card activity filtered by Purchases, Payments/Adj/Credits or Fees/Interest, one statement cycle at a time through the “Activity Since Last Statement” drop-down. Any export, and its file types, is offered inside Citi Online.
Where it stops: Citi does not publish the file types or how far back an export reaches, and the filtered view is not the statement: no previous balance, no new balance and no year-to-date totals.
Statements (PDF): Recent and Older Statements
Recent at once, older by request
Recent Statements download straight away. Older Statements are requested by year and month and appear under Older Statement Request Status when they are ready.
Where it stops: A request may take 48 to 72 hours and the file is available for 7 days, so a multi-year pull is spread over several days.
Converting the statement with VouchRow
Any statement you have
Each cycle becomes rows with the cardmember blocks kept apart, checked against the Account Summary, with every row linked to its line on the PDF.
Where it stops: Needs the statement PDF. An older cycle has to be requested from Citi and saved within its 7 days first.
How far back
How far back each Citi card option reaches
Citi splits its card archive into statements you can download now and statements you have to ask for. It does not publish a range for its transaction download, so that bar is drawn as unknown.
Transaction download in Citi Online
Not published
Citi does not state a range or a list of file types on its public pages. The online activity view can step back by statement through the “Activity Since Last Statement” drop-down; check what the export offers for your card.
Recent Statements (PDF)
About the last 12 months
Citi describes the last 12 months of statements as online. Only statements issued after the card was registered for Citi Online are immediately available.
Older Statements (by request)
By request
Chosen by year and month. Citi’s tutorial says requests may take 48 to 72 hours and the prepared PDF is available for 7 days. How far back requests reach is not published.
A dashed bar means the bank does not publish a figure; check your own online banking.
Step by step
How to convert Citi statements
- 1Download the recent statementsIn Citi Online, open the card or account and go to its statements. Recent statements download directly as PDFs.
- 2Request the older onesFor older cycles, request them by month and year. Citi prepares them over a day or more and then makes them available to download for a limited period, so collect them as soon as they are ready.
- 3Upload the PDFsSign in to VouchRow and add the statements. Digital PDFs convert as a batch; scanned paper statements are read one at a time.
- 4Decide how to treat additional cardmembersIf the account has more than one card, the rows can stay in cardmember order for attribution or be sorted into one date order. Check the first statement either way.
- 5Check and exportConfirm the totals agree with the account summary, click any row to see its source line, and export Excel, CSV, QBO or QFX.
Formats
Where is your Citi card data going?
Pick the destination. On a multi-card account, decide first whether you need spending split by cardmember.
Citi statement to Excel
An .xlsx with one row per transaction, signed from your side of the card: purchases, fees and interest negative, payments and credits positive. That is the reverse of how Citi prints them, and what accounting software expects. The rows net to the change from the previous balance to the new balance.
On an account with authorized users, the rows stay in their cardmember blocks, and the description and source-line link show whose card each came from. Sort by Post Date once you have labelled them, not before.
PDF to ExcelCiti credit card statement to CSV
CSV suits a budgeting tool, a script or an import screen. Choose the date format the importer expects before you export, and decide whether the Sale Date or the Post Date is the one your books use.
Requested older statements convert the same way as recent ones, so a CSV for a past tax year has the same columns as one for last month.
PDF to CSVCiti credit card statement to QuickBooks
Export QBO and import it into the credit card account in QuickBooks. Enter the bank ID from a file Citi issued for the same kind of account, since Citi cards and Citibank deposit accounts are not guaranteed to share one.
Charges arrive as charges and payments as credits to the card. Each row carries a transaction ID, so a requested statement that overlaps activity already downloaded is recognised rather than duplicated.
PDF to QBOCiti credit card statement to Quicken
Quicken connects to Citi through Express Web Connect+ for new transactions, which does not reach back to cycles from years ago. Convert the older statements to QFX and import them into the existing Citi card account.
QIF also works but has no transaction IDs, so a cycle imported twice duplicates. Prefer QFX.
PDF to QFXCiti credit card statement to Xero
Use the Xero CSV preset: one signed amount column and the date format Xero expects. Import into the Citi credit card account in Xero and reconcile.
Spending comes out negative and payments and refunds positive, which is how Xero reads a credit card account’s statement lines. If an authorized user’s spending is coded differently, label those rows before the import.

Why it works
What converting a Citi statement handles
Cardmember headings kept as data
On multi-card accounts the cardmember heading is read as a heading and its rows stay together, so spend can still be attributed after export.
Year assigned from the billing period
Rows print without a year. The year is taken from the statement’s period, including cycles that run from December into January.
Totals as the proof
With no running balance on a card, previous balance plus purchases, fees and interest, less payments and credits, must equal the new balance.
Payments signed correctly
Payments and credits are listed apart from purchases. In the export they come out positive and purchases negative, from your side of the card, the way accounting software expects.
Checked before export
A misread digit is caught on its own row
Every conversion is tested against the statement: the running balance on every row, page subtotals, opening plus movement against closing, the printed credit and debit totals, and the transaction count. When a number does not add up, VouchRow names the row and highlights the line it came from on the PDF.
Arithmetic only: it verifies amounts, balances and totals, not descriptions or dates, and two errors that cancel out would pass. The source-line link covers the rest.

What Citi lets you download, and how long it keeps statements
Citi’s card statement archive works in two tiers. Citi’s own tutorial describes the recent tier as your twelve most recent statements, downloadable as PDFs immediately. Older statements are requested: you choose a year and month, the request takes a day or two to fulfil, and the prepared file is then available to download for a limited time — the tutorial says seven days. It also limits how many you can request per day, so pulling several years of history is a job spread over days.
For Citibank deposit accounts, Citi describes recent statements as available online and older statements as available on request, going back several years. Treat those as a guide and check what Citi Online shows for your account.
Transaction downloads cover recent activity. On the Quicken side, Quicken’s support pages say Citibank replaced Express Web Connect with Express Web Connect+ (a bank-hosted sign-in that may ask you to re-authorise periodically), with Direct Connect accounts not affected. Neither route reaches back to statements from years ago.
- Recent card statements: download directly as PDFs.
- Older card statements: request by month and year, then download within the window Citi gives.
- Requests are limited per day, so plan multi-year pulls ahead.
Statement layout
How a Citi card statement is laid out
The first page carries the account summary — previous balance, payments, credits, purchases, cash advances, fees, interest and new balance — alongside the billing period, the minimum payment and the payment due date. None of these are transactions. They are the totals the extracted rows must reproduce.
The transaction detail lists payments, credits and adjustments separately from standard purchases, with a sale date and a post date. On accounts with authorised users, transactions are grouped by cardmember under their own heading, and the dates restart in each block. Citi describes the statement as showing an authorised-user spend breakdown, and its online transaction view carries a member name column — which is the information a conversion must not drop.
Interest charges, the fees section and the year-to-date totals of fees and interest appear after the transactions. The year-to-date box is a summary in the same visual style as a transaction block and is not extracted.
Citibank accounts
Citibank checking and savings statements
Citibank deposit statements are often relationship statements: one PDF can carry a checking account, a savings account and sometimes more, each with its own beginning and ending balance and its own transaction list. Converting them means separating the accounts before checking the balances, because a running balance that jumps from checking to savings mid-page is not an error in the statement.
Each account section has its own running balance and is checked independently. Export the account you are importing, or export all of them to Excel and filter.
Software
Importing Citi statements into QuickBooks, Quicken and Xero
For QuickBooks banking, export QBO with Citi’s bank ID entered. Where you can, take the ID from a file Citi issued for the same account, since card and banking accounts are not guaranteed to share one. For Quicken, export QFX with the bank ID or QIF. For Xero, use the Xero CSV preset.
On a multi-card account, decide first whether the books need spending split by cardmember. If they do, review in Excel, where the cardmember grouping is visible, before importing. If not, a QBO or CSV with the rows sorted by date is simpler.
Deterministic transaction IDs mean a requested statement that overlaps recent downloaded activity can be imported without creating duplicates.
Troubleshooting
Common Citi conversion problems
Citi issues are mostly about structure and about getting hold of the PDFs.
- Dates go backwards: cardmember blocks restart the dates. Sort by date, or keep the grouping on purpose.
- The requested statement link expired: prepared older statements are available for a limited time. Request again and save the PDF straight away.
- Totals off by one charge: compare purchases with the account summary; the reconciliation shows which total disagrees and every row links to its line.
- Two accounts mixed in one file: a Citibank relationship statement. Each account is separated and balanced on its own.
- QuickBooks rejects the QBO: check the bank ID matches the kind of Citi account you are importing.

Before you import
After converting a Citi card statement, check these
- The cycle balancesPrevious balance plus the rows equals the new balance on the Account Summary. If not, the dollar difference is shown.
- Both cardmembers are thereEvery cardmember block is in the file, and together they add up to Purchases on the Account Summary.
- Payments are creditsYour payment and any returns are positive in the export, purchases negative.
- No year-to-date rowsThe year-to-date fee and interest totals do not appear among the transactions.
- Dates in the right yearOn a December to January cycle, the December rows are in the old year and the January rows in the new one.
- Requested PDFs savedEvery older statement was saved within its 7 days, so the set can be converted again later without another request.
Downloaded activity and statements are not the same thing
Excel for Citi
Who uses it
Where converting Citi statements helps
Household and small business card spending
A Costco or Double Cash card used by several family members or staff becomes a spreadsheet with spending kept by cardmember for labelling.
Tax preparation from requested statements
Statements requested for a past year are converted in one batch and checked cycle by cycle.
Forensic accounting
Produced Citi statements become a ledger with every row traceable to the source page — useful when attribution between cardmembers matters.
FAQ
Citi statements: questions
How do I export a Citi statement to Excel?
For recent activity, use the download in Citi Online. For statement cycles, save the PDF — recent ones download directly, older ones are requested first — and convert it to Excel here, where it is checked against the account summary.
How do I download a Citibank statement as CSV?
Citi statements are PDFs. Convert the PDF and export CSV, using the Xero, QuickBooks three-column or generic layout.
How far back can I get Citi credit card statements?
Citi’s guide describes the twelve most recent statements as immediately downloadable, with older ones available by request. Requested statements take time to prepare and can be downloaded for a limited period once ready.
The dates in my Citi conversion go backwards. Is it broken?
Probably not. If the account has more than one card, the statement restarts the dates for each cardmember. Sort by date, or keep the grouping if you need attribution.
Can I keep which card each transaction came from?
Yes, as long as the cardmember headings are read as headings. They are here; check the first statement you convert.
Does Citi support QuickBooks Web Connect?
For recent activity Citi Online offers downloads for financial software. For statement periods, convert the PDF and export QBO with the bank ID for your kind of Citi account.
Does a Citi card statement have a running balance?
No. Reconciliation uses the previous balance, the printed totals for payments, credits, purchases, fees and interest, and the new balance.
