Alternatives to Documentric
Five tools convert PDF bank statements into something your accounting software will take. They are priced on different axes and built for different people, so the useful question is not which is best — it is which one matches why you are leaving.
Start here
First, why are you looking?
Documentric is the closest competitor to what we are building — a newer cloud converter positioned as the cheaper DocuClipper, with QBO, CSV and Excel exports and a growing set of bank pages. The reason people move off it is usually one of three, and each points somewhere different.
Price
Their best published rate works out at about $0.052 a page. Compare that against your actual monthly page count rather than against a headline plan price — the gap is usually widest at low volumes.
A format they do not export
QFX for Quicken, IIF for QuickBooks Desktop, QIF, OFX or Tally XML. Several tools here publish only CSV, Excel and QBO, and no amount of accuracy helps if the file will not import.
Trusting the output
Extraction is imperfect everywhere. What differs is what happens next — whether a tool checks its own work against the statement’s balances and shows you which row failed, or hands you a spreadsheet and wishes you luck.
The field
The other options
Including the ones that compete with us. If one of these fits you better, it is better for you to find that out here than after a month of paying us.
DocuClipper
The established leader in bank statement conversion, and now a broad financial-document platform — invoices, receipts, tax forms, analysis and integrations — priced per page at the top of the market.
Suits you if: Choose DocuClipper if you need several users in one workspace, an API, direct sync into your ledger, SOC 2, or bulk processing of scanned statements — or if buying from an established vendor with years of public reviews matters more to you than price.
How we compare with DocuClipperProperSoft
Long-established desktop conversion software, now one app — ProperConvert for Windows and Mac — sold as a flat subscription with unlimited pages.
Suits you if: Choose ProperSoft if your policy requires that files never leave the machine, or if you convert enough pages that a flat unlimited price is cheaper than paying per page.
How we compare with ProperSoftMoneyThumb
Long-established conversion tools billed per statement rather than per page, now focused on lenders — bank statement analysis and fraud detection — with accounting converters sold as MoneyThumb Online.
Suits you if: Choose MoneyThumb if you are underwriting loans and want tooling built around cash-flow analysis and fraud signals, need SOC 2, or convert long statements rarely enough that per-statement pricing is simplest.
How we compare with MoneyThumbbank-statements.co
An Australian cloud converter with broad international bank pages, credit-based plans and a REST API, exporting Excel, CSV, QBO, OFX and QIF.
Suits you if: Choose bank-statements.co if you are integrating statement conversion into software you are building, convert at very high volume, or your banks are outside the majors and they cover yours.
How we compare with bank-statements.coWhere VouchRow fits instead of Documentric
Choose us if you need a format they do not publish, want to be told which row broke rather than that the statement did not balance, or want the lower price at the same volume.
Eight formats against three
Their published exports are CSV, Excel and QBO, and their site says IIF is not a focus. We add QFX, OFX, QIF, IIF and Tally XML. If you are on Quicken, on QuickBooks Desktop needing IIF, or on Tally, they do not currently have a format for you.
Reconciliation at the row, not the total
Their published check is an aggregate one — opening plus net movement against the printed closing balance. Ours walks the running balance row by row, falls back to page subtotals and then to printed totals, and names the first row where the ledger breaks. An aggregate check tells you something is wrong; this tells you where.
Only pages with transactions are counted
Their published rule is that every page of the uploaded PDF counts. Ours counts a page only when it produces at least one transaction, so cover pages, terms and conditions and blank backs come out of nobody’s allowance.
We are new. DocuClipper, MoneyThumb and ProperSoft have been doing this for years and have the reviews to show for it; we do not. What we can offer instead of a track record is a product that checks its own work in the open — every row tested against the statement’s balance, the source line one click away — and that tells you when it is unsure rather than presenting every conversion as finished.
