The short answer

Can you export a Fifth Third bank statement to Excel?

Fifth Third does not offer the statement itself as a spreadsheet: eStatements are PDFs. To get a Fifth Third bank statement into Excel, save the PDF from online banking and convert it, which gives you one row per check, withdrawal and deposit, with the totals tied back to the statement.

Fifth Third keeps the last 24 months of eStatements and check images online at no charge, in online banking and the mobile app. For QuickBooks, its own FAQ says it does not support Web Connect download, only Direct Connect, which links the software to the bank rather than handing you a file. Fifth Third does not publish how far back that connection or the online activity view reaches.

A Fifth Third checking statement has no running balance on the rows. Instead, each section states how many items it holds and their total, and a Daily Balance Summary gives the closing balance for each date. A converted statement is checked against all three: the counts, the section totals and the daily balances.

Watch for this

Checks print three across, and the amount comes before the description

The Checks block on a Fifth Third statement is laid out in three side-by-side groups of Number, Date Paid and Amount, so one printed line holds three different checks. Read left to right as one row and you get a single transaction with three dates and three amounts. The check numbers carry flags as well: an asterisk marks a gap in the number sequence and a letter marks an electronic image or a substitute check, so “1044*i” is check 1044, not a description. Below that, Withdrawals / Debits and Deposits / Credits put the amount before the description, which trips up any reader that expects the money at the end of the line. Nothing on the rows carries a sign: the section decides whether an amount is money in or money out.

Native export

What Fifth Third lets you export

Fifth Third has a live connection and a PDF archive, but no QuickBooks file download. Converting the statement covers the rest.

Direct Connect to Quicken and QuickBooks

Not published

A connection between the software and Fifth Third that downloads statement transactions for checking, savings and credit accounts, and supports bill payment and transfers.

Where it stops: No Web Connect file for QuickBooks, and Fifth Third does not say how far back the first download reaches.

Step by step

How to convert a Fifth Third bank statement

  1. 1Save the eStatements from Fifth ThirdSign in to Fifth Third online banking or the mobile app, open the account and save each monthly statement you need as a PDF. The last 24 months are online; older months have to be requested from Fifth Third.
  2. 2Keep one account per batchGroup each checking or savings account’s statements together, and business accounts apart from personal ones, so each set lands in the right account in your software.
  3. 3Upload and convertSign in to VouchRow and add the PDFs. Digital statements convert in batches. A scanned paper statement is read with OCR, one at a time. A password-protected PDF is unlocked in your browser; the password is never sent.
  4. 4Check the counts and balancesEach section’s item count and total must match its rows, and beginning balance plus deposits minus checks and withdrawals must equal the ending balance. A mismatch shows the dollar difference, and any row opens its line on the PDF.
  5. 5ExportExcel or CSV to review, QBO for QuickBooks, QFX or QIF for Quicken, or the Xero CSV preset.

Fifth Third bank statement to Excel

An .xlsx with one row per check, withdrawal and deposit: date, description, check number where there is one, and a signed amount, with checks and debits negative and deposits positive. The checks come out of the three-across block as separate rows.

Sort by date and add a running total from the beginning balance; it will match each line of the Daily Balance Summary, which is the quickest way to show a reviewer the file is complete.

Why it works

Built around how Fifth Third prints a statement

One row per check

The Checks block prints three checks to a line. Each is split out with its own number, date paid and amount, and the gap and image flags are kept off the description.

Item counts as a check

Fifth Third heads each section “N items totaling $X”. The converted rows must match both figures, so a skipped or doubled line shows up straight away.

Signed by section

Amounts print unsigned. Checks and Withdrawals / Debits come out negative and Deposits / Credits positive, in every format.

Daily balances as proof

The Daily Balance Summary is not imported as rows. It is used to confirm the running total at the end of each date.

QuickBooks without Direct Connect

Fifth Third offers Direct Connect for QuickBooks but no Web Connect download. A converted QBO file imports by upload instead.

Past the 24 months online

Any Fifth Third statement you saved converts the same way, including months that have dropped out of online banking and closed accounts.

Checked before export

A misread digit is caught on its own row

Every conversion is tested against the statement: the running balance on every row, page subtotals, opening plus movement against closing, the printed credit and debit totals, and the transaction count. When a number does not add up, VouchRow names the row and highlights the line it came from on the PDF.

Arithmetic only: it verifies amounts, balances and totals, not descriptions or dates, and two errors that cancel out would pass. The source-line link covers the rest.

Layout

What a Fifth Third bank statement looks like

The top of a Fifth Third statement gives the Statement Period Date as a full range (for example 3/1/2026 - 3/31/2026), the Account Type and the account number. The Account Summary follows: Beginning Balance, then Checks, Withdrawals / Debits and Deposits / Credits, each written as an item count and a total, then the Ending Balance. Interest-bearing accounts add Interest Earned, Number of Days in Period, Annual Percentage Yield Earned and Interest Earned YTD. None of these are transactions.

The activity comes next in its own blocks. Checks lists each paid check by Number, Date Paid and Amount, three to a line. Withdrawals / Debits and Deposits / Credits use the columns Date, Amount and Description, in that order. Each block is headed with its count and total, such as “Withdrawals / Debits 15 items totaling $51,021.85”. A long block can run onto the next page, so the heading figures are the only reliable count of what belongs to it.

The statement closes with a Daily Balance Summary: a Date and Amount for each day with activity, again printed in side-by-side groups. It is a list of balances, not of transactions, and importing it would add a second set of rows that look genuine.

Checks

Checks paid, gap markers and check images

Fifth Third marks each check number with flags explained in a legend above the block: an asterisk indicates a gap in the check sequence, “i” an electronic image and “s” a substitute check. A check printed as “1044*i” means check 1044, with an image available, and at least one earlier number missing from this statement. The converted row keeps 1044 as the check number, so QuickBooks and Quicken can match it against the check you wrote.

The images themselves are not part of the transaction list. Fifth Third keeps check images online for the same 24 months as eStatements, at no charge, so if a reviewer needs the payee on a check, pull the image from online banking for that number.

QuickBooks and Quicken

Fifth Third with QuickBooks and Quicken

Fifth Third’s Quicken and QuickBooks FAQ answers the Web Connect question directly: “Fifth Third does not support Web Connect download for QuickBooks”, and points to Direct Connect instead, which covers checking, savings and credit accounts. Direct Connect pulls activity from the bank into the software; it does not give you a file you can keep, edit or send to a client.

That leaves a gap for anyone who needs a file: a bookkeeper rebuilding a year, an accountant whose client uses QuickBooks Online without a bank link, or a lender who wants the rows in Excel. Converting the statement fills it. The QBO file carries a transaction ID per row, so if the same month later arrives through Direct Connect, QuickBooks can recognise the overlap.

Business accounts

Fifth Third business checking statements

Business checking statements follow the same Account Summary, Checks, Withdrawals / Debits, Deposits / Credits and Daily Balance Summary order. Where an account is analyzed, the service charge is taken as a debit like any other, so it belongs in the books as a bank fee and converts as an ordinary row.

Fifth Third does not publish a separate statement archive length for business accounts in its current help pages, so check online banking or Fifth Third Direct for how many months your business profile shows. Save the PDFs every month if you need more than that on hand.

Troubleshooting

Common Fifth Third conversion problems

Most errors on a Fifth Third statement come from the Checks block and the missing signs.

  • One check row with three dates and three amounts: the three-across Checks layout was read as one line. Each group is its own check.
  • Check numbers like “1044*i” in the description: the gap and image flags were kept. The number is 1044.
  • Every withdrawal shows as money in: amounts print unsigned, and the section heading was not carried onto the rows.
  • Descriptions in the amount column, or amounts missing: Fifth Third prints Date, Amount, Description, with the amount in the middle.
  • Dozens of extra rows near the end: the Daily Balance Summary was imported as transactions.
  • Count or total off by one item: a block that continued onto the next page was read twice or skipped. The “N items totaling” figure catches it.

Before you import

After converting a Fifth Third statement, check these

  • The counts matchThe number of checks, debits and credits equals the “N items” figures in the Account Summary.
  • The month balancesBeginning balance plus deposits minus checks and withdrawals equals the Ending Balance. If not, the difference is shown.
  • One row per checkNo row with two or three dates. Check numbers are plain numbers, without the asterisk or image letter.
  • Withdrawals are negativeChecks and Withdrawals / Debits are money out, Deposits / Credits money in.
  • No daily balance rowsNothing from the Daily Balance Summary appears among the transactions.
  • Continued blocks counted onceWhere a section ran onto the next page, its rows appear once and its total still matches.

Downloaded activity and statements are not the same thing

Every large US bank offers two different exports, and people reach for the wrong one constantly. Downloadable account activity — CSV, and often QFX or OFX — covers a recent window, typically a few months, and stops. Statements are PDFs, are issued per period, and go back years. If you need last March, the activity export will not have it and the statement will; converting the PDF is how that gap is closed.

QBO for Fifth Third

Fifth Third says it does not support Web Connect download for QuickBooks, only Direct Connect. A converted QBO is a Web Connect file, so it imports into QuickBooks without a Direct Connect link, and it covers months the connection never downloaded.

FAQ

Fifth Third statements: questions

How do I export a Fifth Third bank statement to Excel?

Save the statement PDF from Fifth Third online banking or the mobile app, then convert it here to Excel or CSV. You get one row per check, withdrawal and deposit, checked against the item counts and totals Fifth Third prints.

How do I download a Fifth Third bank statement?

Sign in to online banking or the Fifth Third mobile app, open the account and view its statements; each one saves as a PDF. Fifth Third says the last 24 months of eStatements are available online at no charge.

How far back can I get Fifth Third statements online?

Fifth Third says 24 months of eStatements and check images. For older statements, contact Fifth Third. Fifth Third does not publish how far back its online activity download reaches; check online banking.

Does Fifth Third work with QuickBooks?

Through Direct Connect. Fifth Third’s FAQ says it does not support Web Connect download for QuickBooks. To import from a file instead, convert the statement PDF to QBO and upload it to the bank account in QuickBooks.

Can I get Fifth Third transactions into Quicken?

Fifth Third offers Direct Connect for Quicken for checking, savings and credit accounts. For months the connection does not cover, convert the statement to QFX and import it into the same account.

What does a Fifth Third bank statement look like?

An Account Summary with item counts and totals, then Checks (number, date paid, amount, three across), Withdrawals / Debits and Deposits / Credits (date, amount, description), and a Daily Balance Summary. There is no running balance on the rows.

What does the asterisk next to a check number mean?

It marks a gap in the check number sequence: an earlier check has not cleared in this period. An “i” means an electronic image is available and an “s” a substitute check. The converted row keeps the plain check number.

My Fifth Third statement PDF has a password. Can I still convert it?

Yes. Enter the password when you upload. The PDF is unlocked in your browser and the password is never sent to us.
