The short answer
Can you export an Ally Bank statement to Excel?
You can download Ally activity yourself: in Ally’s help, you scroll to Transactions History and select the download icon to save account activity as a CSV or a Quicken (QFX) file, and Ally shows up to 18 months of activity online. Open the CSV in Excel and you have the rows. What Ally does not offer is a QuickBooks (QBO) file, and the download is a date range you pick, not a statement.
Ally’s statement is the complete record. It is consolidated: if you have a savings or checking account, Ally sends one statement each month for all of your accounts, including CDs, with IRAs on a separate statement. The day each statement cycle ends is based on the day you opened your account, so a period usually runs mid-month to mid-month. Converting the PDF gives you Excel, CSV, QBO or QFX that matches the statement exactly.
A converted Ally statement is checked account by account: the running balance on every row, and each account’s beginning balance plus credits minus debits against its ending balance.
Ally’s download has no QuickBooks file, and its statement holds every account at once

Native export
What Ally lets you export
Ally’s download covers recent activity in two formats. Converting the statement covers QuickBooks and everything older.
Download from Transactions History
Up to 18 months of activity
A Comma Separated Value file or a Quicken file for the account and dates you choose, from the download icon on Transactions History.
Where it stops: No QBO for QuickBooks, one account at a time, and the dates you pick are not Ally’s statement period.
Consolidated statements
Not published for open accounts
One PDF a month for all your accounts, including CDs, with each account’s summary and activity. IRAs come on a separate statement.
Where it stops: A PDF only. Getting the rows into Excel or QuickBooks means converting it.
Converting the statement with VouchRow
Any statement you have
The PDF becomes rows in the format your software takes, with each account’s running balance and ending balance checked and every row linked to its line.
Where it stops: Needs the statement PDF. A period you never saved has to come from Ally first.
How far back
How far back each Ally option reaches
Ally publishes a window for its activity and for closed accounts, but not for the statements of an open account.
Activity and download (CSV, QFX)
Up to 18 months
Ally shows up to 18 months of account activity; the download is from Transactions History. You pick the dates, so it rarely matches a statement period.
Statements (PDF), open accounts
Not published
Ally does not say how far back statements go while your accounts are open. Check the statements list in your account.
Statements after closing all accounts
7 years
If you close all your Ally Bank accounts, statements and tax forms stay online for the last seven years.
A dashed bar means the bank does not publish a figure; check your own online banking.
Step by step
How to convert an Ally Bank statement
- 1Save the statement PDFs from AllyIn the Ally app, open Menu, then Statements and Tax Forms. On ally.com, Ally’s help names Profile and Settings, then Documents, for tax forms; look for your statements in the same documents area. Save each month you need.
- 2One statement holds every accountThere is no need to download per account: the consolidated statement already carries your Spending, Savings, Money Market and CD accounts for the period.
- 3Upload and convertSign in to VouchRow and add the PDFs. Digital statements convert in batches. A scanned paper statement is read with OCR, one at a time. A password-protected PDF is unlocked in your browser; the password is never sent.
- 4Check every account’s balancesEach running balance and each account’s ending balance are checked. If anything is off, VouchRow shows the dollar difference, and clicking any row shows its line on the PDF.
- 5ExportExcel or CSV to review, QBO for QuickBooks, QFX or QIF for Quicken, or the Xero CSV preset. Import each account’s rows into the matching account in your software.
Formats
Where is your Ally data going?
Pick the destination. The advice changes with it.
Ally Bank statement to Excel
An .xlsx with one row per transaction: date, description, a signed amount (deposits positive, withdrawals negative) and the running balance from the statement. Interest Paid is a row; the summary lines are what the rows are checked against.
Each row links back to its line on the PDF, so on a consolidated statement you can always see which account’s section a row came from.
PDF to ExcelAlly Bank statement to CSV
Ally’s own CSV is fine for recent activity in a date range you choose. A CSV converted from the statement covers exactly one statement period, with the same columns every time, back as far as your statements go.
Choose the date format the importer expects before you export, so a budgeting app or loan system reads 09/24/2026 the way you mean it.
PDF to CSVAlly Bank statement to QuickBooks
Ally does not offer a QBO file, so convert the statement to QBO and import it into the matching bank account in QuickBooks (in QuickBooks Online, under bank transactions, upload from file; in Desktop, as a Web Connect file). Set up Spending and Savings as separate accounts.
Each row carries a transaction ID, so a re-import does not duplicate. Match transfers between your Ally accounts as transfers once both sides are in.
PDF to QBOAlly Bank statement to Quicken
Ally offers QFX in its own download for recent activity. For older periods, convert the statement to QFX and import it into the same Ally account in Quicken, so the history joins it rather than creating a new account.
QIF also works, but QIF has no transaction IDs, so a period imported twice will duplicate. Prefer QFX.
PDF to QFXAlly Bank statement to Xero
Use the Xero CSV preset: one signed amount column and the date format Xero expects. Import each account’s rows into its own bank account in Xero, then reconcile as usual.
Ally’s separate Credits and Debits become one signed amount, so Xero reads withdrawals as spent and deposits as received.

| One statement, every account | Ally sends one consolidated statement each month for all your accounts, including CDs; IRAs get a separate statement |
|---|---|
| Statement period | The day the cycle ends is set by the day you opened your account, so it rarely matches a calendar month |
| Running balance | Ally publishes no sample; statements customers have shared show a balance after each row for each account |

| Interest | Interest is credited every statement period and appears as a row on each interest-earning account |
Why it works
Built around how Ally issues a statement
Every account, kept apart
Spending, Savings and Money Market sections on one consolidated PDF are read as the separate accounts they are, each with its own balances.
A QBO file Ally does not make
Ally’s download stops at CSV and QFX. A converted QBO goes straight into QuickBooks, with a transaction ID on every row.
Running balance on every row
Each account’s balance column is checked line by line, so a misread row shows up where the balance stops matching.
Statement periods that match
Ally’s cycle ends on a day set by when you opened the account. A converted statement covers exactly that period, so months join end to end without gaps.
Interest kept as rows
Ally credits interest every statement period. It comes through as a credit on each interest-earning account, ready to label as income.
Older than 18 months
Ally shows 18 months of activity online. Statements you saved, or that Ally still lists, convert for any period.
Checked before export
A misread digit is caught on its own row
Every conversion is tested against the statement: the running balance on every row, page subtotals, opening plus movement against closing, the printed credit and debit totals, and the transaction count. When a number does not add up, VouchRow names the row and highlights the line it came from on the PDF.
Arithmetic only: it verifies amounts, balances and totals, not descriptions or dates, and two errors that cancel out would pass. The source-line link covers the rest.

Every row agrees with the balance printed beside it.
Layout
How an Ally Bank statement is laid out
Ally’s deposit agreement says it provides “a consolidated statement showing all accounts (except IRAs)”, with separate statements for any IRAs. Spending Account, Savings and Money Market have monthly statement cycles; CDs and IRAs are quarterly, but a CD held alongside a savings or checking account appears on the monthly consolidated statement.
Ally does not publish a sample statement, so check the details below against your own. On statements customers have shared, each account has a summary (beginning balance, deposits and other credits, interest paid, withdrawals and other debits, ending balance) and, for interest-earning accounts, the annual percentage yield earned, the average daily balance and interest paid year to date. The activity table for each account lists the date, description, credits, debits and a running balance.
None of the summary figures are transactions. The annual percentage yield and year-to-date interest are rates and totals, and are left out of the rows; the interest credited this period is a row.
Downloads
Ally’s CSV and QFX download, and where it stops
Ally’s help says you can download and save your account activity as a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file or a Quicken (QFX) file, from the download icon on Transactions History, and lists downloading activity to Quicken among its online banking features. Ally shows up to 18 months of account activity online.
That covers a lot, but not everything. There is no QBO file for QuickBooks, the range is the dates you pick rather than the statement period, and nothing in the download proves it against a statement. For QuickBooks, for anything older, or for a file that has to match the statement line for line, convert the PDF. If you already have an Ally QFX file and need QBO, the QFX to QBO converter handles that too.
Statement codes
What “Ally bank statement codes” means
Searches for Ally statement codes usually lead to a list of two-letter codes such as CR, DR and PD. Those come from Ally’s dealer business: its Statement of Dealer Transactions guide uses a statement code for each type of dealer activity (condition reports, rebates, dealer remittances, payments to dealers). They do not appear on an Ally Bank Spending, Savings or Money Market statement.
Ally Bank deposit statements describe each transaction in words: transfers, direct deposits, card purchases, interest paid. Ally notes that the business names in savings bucket activity look slightly different from the ones on your traditional bank statement, so if you are matching bucket activity to a converted statement, match on date and amount.
Older statements
How far back Ally statements go
Ally publishes how long statements stay online after you close all your Ally Bank accounts: seven years, along with your tax forms. It does not publish a figure for open accounts, so check the statements list in your account for how far yours goes back. A single closed account stays visible online for 60 days.
Ally’s 18 months of activity is a separate limit, for the transaction list and its download. Statements are how you get anything older into a spreadsheet.
Troubleshooting
Common Ally conversion problems
Most Ally errors come from the consolidated statement and the period dates.
- Balances never match: the Spending and Savings sections were read as one account. Each has its own beginning and ending balance.
- Income looks too high after import: transfers between your Ally accounts were imported as deposits. Match each pair as a transfer.
- The CSV does not match the statement: the download was a calendar month, but Ally’s statement cycle ends on a day set by when you opened the account.
- QuickBooks will not take the Ally download: Ally offers CSV and QFX, not QBO. Convert the statement to QBO instead.
- Extra rows for interest: the annual percentage yield earned and interest paid year to date are summary lines; only the interest credited this period is a row.
- Activity stops 18 months back: that is the limit of Ally’s online activity. Older periods come from statements.

Before you import
After converting an Ally statement, check these
- Every account balancesEach account’s beginning balance plus its rows equals its ending balance. If not, the difference is shown.
- Accounts kept apartSpending rows go into the Spending account and Savings rows into Savings, not one combined list.
- Transfers matchedEach transfer between your Ally accounts is one transfer in your books, not income plus an expense.
- Interest presentInterest Paid appears as a credit on each interest-earning account for the period.
- No summary rowsNo beginning or ending balances, APY earned or year-to-date interest among the transactions.
- Periods join upEach statement starts the day after the last one ended, on Ally’s mid-month cycle, with no calendar-month gaps.

FAQ
Ally statements: questions
How do I export an Ally Bank statement to Excel?
For recent activity, select the download icon on Transactions History and save a CSV, which opens in Excel. For a full statement, or anything older than Ally’s 18 months of activity, save the statement PDF and convert it here to Excel. Each account is checked against its balances.
Can I download Ally transactions as a CSV?
Yes. Ally’s help says you can download account activity as a CSV or a Quicken (QFX) file from Transactions History. Ally shows up to 18 months of activity online.
How do I get an Ally Bank statement?
In the Ally app, open Menu, then Statements and Tax Forms. On ally.com, Ally’s help names Profile and Settings, then Documents, for tax forms; check there for statements too. Ally sends one consolidated statement a month for all your accounts.
Can I get a QuickBooks (QBO) file from Ally?
Ally’s download offers CSV and QFX, not QBO. Convert the statement PDF to QBO and import it into the bank account in QuickBooks. Each row carries a transaction ID, so a re-import does not duplicate.
What are Ally bank statement codes?
The two-letter statement codes (such as CR, DR and PD) belong to Ally’s dealer statements, which list dealer transactions by code. Ally Bank deposit statements describe each transaction in words.
Why does my Ally statement cover several accounts?
Ally provides a consolidated statement showing all your accounts except IRAs. Each account still has its own section and its own balances, and a converted statement keeps them apart.
When does my Ally statement period start?
Ally says your statement date, the day of the month your statement cycle ends, is based on the day you opened your account. Spending, Savings and Money Market accounts have monthly cycles; CDs and IRAs are quarterly.
How far back can I get Ally statements?
Ally does not publish a figure for open accounts; check the statements list in your account. If you close all your Ally Bank accounts, statements and tax forms stay available online for seven years.
